A few weeks ago I had the fantastic privilege of photographing one of my closest friends in all her maternal glory.  Katie was just a week or so short of her due date and kindly consented to being photographed, bump and all, specially for Jodie Chapman Photography.

Maternity photography is an area that has seen a huge surge in photography over recent years.  Ever since Demi’s famous Vanity Fair cover (photographed by the great Annie Leibovitz), women have embraced their beautiful bodies and started to rightly love themselves a little more.  Where once it was expected for a pregnant woman to be hidden away in dungarees and floaty numbers, it is now the norm for women to flaunt their bump in figure-hugging dresses and proudly wear their bloom for all to see.  Maternity photography is something I realised on Katie’s shoot that I LOVE to do.  It gives the mother-to-be the chance to put aside any feelings of nausea or not feeling their best, and learn to love themselves in front of the camera and create pictures that will have deeper resonance as years go by and their babies grow.  A make-up artist can be on hand if desired, so that not only does the “yummy mummy” look fantastic, she feels fantastic too.  (We shot some Demi-style shots too, but they are for Katie’s eyes only.)

Update:- Katie gave birth two days ago to a beautiful, bouncing baby boy – Calvin.  So pleased for you, my love!
