Film Friday | A taste of my summer

I seem to inherit an awful lot of old film cameras.  I’m the go-to person when you’re clearing out your attic and find old cameras in their beautifully smelly cases.  With the immediacy of digital, people generally are no longer interested in these cameras and they are left to gather dust.  One of the cameras that was passed to me was an old Fujica SLR from the 1970s.  Having no idea if it would still be working, I loaded it with Tri-X film and took it away for a little weekend with friends. The results are in.

First up, this is my definitive taste of summer…

I absolutely adore these grey, grainy shots. So beautiful. Your friend with the sunglasses is so pretty, can't decide whether she looks like Kirsten Dunst or Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Lulu ~ I would look for something that has auto-focus for your first foray into this amazing and rewarding world. My Fujica is manual focus only, and although I love it as it forces me to slow down and think before shooting, it takes a while to get the knack of it (especially when shooting at f/2 like I do). But if you want to dive straight in, I say do it! I also have a Nikon F90x which is a brilliant camera & has a few more automatic features than the older SLRs. Would recommend learning how to expose as well as you can as you obviously don't have the little LCD screen to help you out. It soon becomes instinctive and then you enjoy it all the more.

Serena ~ she is gorgeous, isn't she. Greg and I think she looks like the beautiful Holly Willoughby. Gini was one of my very first brides!

These are so cool. The grain and tones are amazing. Love the shot of Gini and the 60's building at the end. It deserves to be blown up big on a wall.
